After The Prom - Continue The Party!
My prom seems like it was a lifetime ago, and perhaps it was. I have since gone to and finished college, gotten my master’s degree, married, had kids, and moved more times than I’d like to recall. Prom was a landmark of sorts in my life - the apex of my high school years, a culminating hurrah of four years of persistence and hard work. It was a time to celebrate with my friends, and it was a time I didn’t want to end.
Several parents of my friends made our prom evening extra-special by hosting a post-prom progressive party. In many ways, it was better than the actual prom itself! About fifteen of my friends and I left our prom and started on an all-night party to end all parties.
Our first stop was the Dollar Movie theater - IN OUR PROM CLOTHES. We watched the “Rocky Horror Picture Show”, and quite frankly, I think we fit in pretty well with the crowd! The entire experience was new to all of us, but we enjoyed acting out parts of the movie with the “regulars” and singing along to songs we already knew.
Our second destination was to one of the family’s houses to have a late-night snack-a-thon. We built ice cream sundaes and ate popcorn, talking with many of the parents who also showed up, sharing in the events from the evening and having a wonderful time. We took pictures and decided that this was a great place to change into a more casual attire for the rest of our activities for the evening.
From there, we went to another family’s home who happened to have a lighted pool. With no neighbors around, we had a pool party to end all pool parties. Everything was decorated in a Hawaiian theme, from the tables to the eaves of the house. We swam, played a little water volleyball and again, took tons of pictures.
Our evening ended at my house, where my parents greeted us at the door with the smell of the most amazing breakfast spread ever. We loaded our plates down with french toast, waffles, eggs, bacon, fruit, cheeses, juices and muffins. We all picnicked in my backyard on large quilts as we watched the sun rise and the dawn of a new day.
Our prom was over (finally), but we had made an amazing memory to last a lifetime.
Outfit your pre- or post-prom party with a Hawaiian flair, or choose from such themes as a luau, fiesta, and beach!
