Fun Themes For A Bridal Shower

Bridal showers traditionally are composed of a group of women who gather to honor a bride-to-be.  There is usually some sort of food spread, from a full meal to simply cake and punch, gifts to be given and a game or two to be played.  Sometimes, though, it is fun to shake it up a bit and throw a thematic shower.  Check out a few of our favorites!

The Kitchen Shower:  This is perfect for the bride who either (a) is a pro in the kitchen or (b) needs to learn how to boil water.  Guests are invited to bring something that is essential to the bride’s new kitchen.  Or, go a step further and have guests bring their favorite recipes.  Then, they can bring a couple of the essential tools needed to create the recipe (a deep dish baking pan for a good lasagna recipe, cookie sheets and cooling racks for Aunt Agnes’ famous peanut butter cookie recipe, or a beautiful pitcher and glass set for that margarita recipe).  As a “group gift”, guests can sign a plain apron for the bride, filling it with wishes for a fruitful and spicy marriage!

Around-The-Clock Shower: This is a great idea for a larger shower.  Assign each guest an hour in the day or evening.  The gift they give should reflect that time period for the bride.  Gifts can be opened in chronological order.  A person with a 6 a.m. time might give a nice alarm clock, new towels for a morning shower, or a coffee pot.  Someone with the 2 p.m. time may decide to give some gardening or other hobby items for the weekend, and a guest with a 2 a.m. time may give sheets or other bedding items.

Couples Showers: These are great when the groom wishes to be included (or the bride wants him included!).  Invite couples friends of the honorees.  Having a barbecue or other outdoor activity in conjunction with the shower works well for the guys.  This can be extended to a swim party, a casino night, an outing to a sporting event and even a weekend getaway.  Gifts for a shower such as this should be things that both the future bride and groom will appreciate…power tools, anyone?

Alphabet Shower: Similar to the Around The Clock Shower, each guest is assigned a letter of the alphabet and challenged to make the gift reflect that letter.  This is perfect for teachers!  The menu for the shower can even reflect the letters as well: apricot spread for bread, cookies and desserts to follow.  Decorate using alphabetic-themed items.  A great game would be to let each guest attempt to write down one fact about the future bride for each letter of the alphabet!

There are plenty of other ideas for showers beyond the simple cake, punch, gifts and games style of shower.  Use your imagination to focus on things the bride-to-be enjoys and you will be sure to discover a great theme for that shower!
