Halloween Is Coming!

In less than two months, our neighborhoods will be filled with little princesses and pirates, goblins and gory creatures.  Halloween will be upon us, and it will be time to decorate and celebrate.  While many people enjoy going “all out” in decorating for Halloween, having just a few key pieces can create that bewitching mood!

The majority of people that will see your home at Halloween will view it from only the outside, so concentrate on outdoor decorations and porch decorations first.  There are several things that will fit into any budget that can be done to create a ghoulish mood.  Make “headstones” for a graveyard in the front yard cutting old boxes into tombstone shapes and painting them.  Or, create life-size “ghosts” to hang from trees with an old white sheet and some string to tie off the head.  My sons think it is fun to put old shoes out in the driveway as if they are walking.  They say it reminds them of someone invisible walking down our driveway.

Doorknob cutouts are a wonderful greeter on your front door.  Look for decorative cut outs, as well as festive garland to hang from the porch ceiling or along a balcony rail.  Hanging decorations make a great touch, too, as they draw your eye upward.  Consider covering larger areas, such as doors or windows, with Halloween-themed table covers.  The plastic ones are durable and weather-resistant.  The “Dripping Blood” table cover could be used on a bench, to cover a door, or even over a series of bushes.

Decorating the outside of your home or apartment for the Halloween season can be inexpensive and fun.  Use your imagination to create unique decorations that everyone can enjoy without scaring the cash out of your wallet!
