Lenten Lunches

I’m on a committee at my church that is in charge of all-things-social.  Yeah, just a “small” committee, haha.  Sad to say, but I am also the chair, so a great deal of the “stuff” goes through me to be filtered out to the committee.  Anyway, we have our Lenten Lunch series looming before us, as Lent begins on February 6th (Ash Wednesday).  On each subsequent Wednesday, our church hosts an informal worship/speaker service at noon, always finished by 1.  Included in this service is a boxed lunch. The boxed lunches are relatively simple; chicken salad on a croissant, bag of chips, apple, maybe a cookie and tea.  We try and steer clear of any foods that require silverware, simply because that is an added expense and responsibility for a member of our team.  We do, however, enjoy adding little touches to our tables to make them more inviting for our church members and guests.

Paper Bake Cups that come in larger sizes than your standard cupcake size are perfect for setting out mixed nuts, after dinner mints or other small items for the table.  We also provide a paper placemat at each seat so people may easily find available space at the tables.  Using paper placemats also lends itself well to easy clean up, especially when we’re running shorthanded.  And, while we do not use these, small paper doilies would be an excellent choice for drinks in order to keep watermarks off of the table.

Taking a few extra steps in preparation makes our lunches a little more special and memorable for everyone, and by using paper products, our clean up is a snap!
