Nature’s Bounty - Decorating With Wheat

Using items found in nature is an economical and “green” way to decorate and entertain this season.  Using boughs of holly, trails of ivy and branches of pine, holiday decorating can be fun, fragrant and frugal!  If you have access to a plant such as wheat, you can tie in the fall season with the holiday season.

Try tucking sprigs of wheat into the branches of a Christmas tree for some flair and a great contrast to the dark green branches.  Accenting with silver and gold ribbons or ornaments will make the blond color of the wheat stand out.  Tie small bundles together with ribbon, or simply tuck the stalks into the branches for an “icicle” effect.

Create a simple yet elegant centerpiece with wheat.  Put floral foam in the middle of a pot or jar and fill with wheat stalks.  For added color, add evergreen sprigs around the outside edge, such as juniper or cedar.  Tie it off with a wide ribbon or leave alone, depending on the formality of the table.

Complete the look of a table with sprigs of wheat tied into napkin rings or ribbons.  Wheat is a wonderful symbol of bountifulness and bounty.  And, if the other ideas are incorporated into the holiday decorating, sprigs of wheat in napkin rings is a great way to tie the table settings into the rest of the atmosphere!
