Ready, Set, BUNCO!

I opened my doors tonight to eleven other women, all with the same mission; to enjoy some fellowship together, share a meal, and roll some dice.  It was BUNCO NIGHT at my house!

Bunco is quickly becoming a national phenomenon.  It is played by varying rules, mostly dependent upon the region in which you live.  But, the basics are constant throughout: you need some dice, you need some friends, you need a scorecard, and you probably need some prizes as well.  A good site for the basics of bunco can be found HERE.

What I love about my group is the fellowship that goes along with our game.  We meet an hour before our game begins for dinner, usually at someone’s house.  The hostess provides the main dish, and everyone else signs up to bring a side or a dessert.  We are all able to visit and catch up on everything that has happened in our lives since the last time we met.

As the hostess this time, I didn’t want to stress myself out by adding more to my workload by thinking of the dishes I would have to wash and the silverware to put away.  But, I also love to entertain, and I enjoy it so much more when I find plates and napkins that go well with the theme.  This time, I went with a “girly” theme and decked out my tables in all pink and frilly things.  As a mom to boys, I RARELY get the opportunity to use things like these (or else I have to put up with A LOT of teasing).  But, the chance to use a little pink decor makes the evening more about my friends and the special relationship we share and less about the train table in the corner and the Hot Wheels car under the couch.

It will be another year before I host another Bunco night at my house, but I am already thinking ahead to the next one.  I might go with something more floral and fun, like the summer paisley design!
