Baby Showers – They’re A Snap!

My neighbor is expecting her first child this Spring.  Being a mom of two, that really brings me back to the days where my belly was growing each day and the comments I would get from others.  Total strangers would smile or talk to me in the store.  People would go out of their way to be nice or helpful.  But my best memories from my pregnancies were the showers my friends gave me. The Easter Bunny’s Coming!

Stock up now!  Easter is early this year - March 23rd.  No sooner do we have the New Year behind us as Easter is breathing down our necks.  Bunnies and eggs are showing up in window displays and shelves!

At our church, Easter means POT LUCK LUNCHEON.  Read the rest of this entry »

Napkin Folding 101

We’re having twelve people for dinner at our house tomorrow night…my husband’s side of the family.  I love to entertain, and I am always looking for special touches to make the event more unique.  One of my favorite things to do is the fold napkins into unique shapes.  And, guess what?  It works with paper and linen-like napkins, too! 40 Years

Back in 1967, a young man took a summer internship in a big, city office in Houston.  He was simply a mail clerk; he made sure memos and letters reached their destination, collated papers and reports, and ran errands as necessary.  It was a good, steady job with plenty of experience in city business, perfect for a young college man.

Each day when the young man would walk through the glass doors of the building, a friendly young face would greet him by name.  The receptionist, he quickly found out, was a summer hire as well, filling in for the regular receptionist who was out for the summer after having a baby.  She had recently graduated from high school, hoping to find a more permanent job in the office when the time came for her temporary employment to end.  Read the rest of this entry »

Ready, Set, BUNCO!

I opened my doors tonight to eleven other women, all with the same mission; to enjoy some fellowship together, share a meal, and roll some dice.  It was BUNCO NIGHT at my house! Read the rest of this entry »

Double Duty!

I was browsing the MyPaperShop site this evening, mainly through the Easter items, and realized that many of the patterns that are available are perfect for Easter AND Mother’s Day!  What a great idea!  Items that can carry through more than one event are always well-worth the money invested.  Check out the complete line of dinner and party ware in the Blooming Spring Tulips (my absolute favorite) and the Fresh Petals line.  The bunnies and eggs are adorable, but when you can carry over party supplies from one holiday or celebration to the next, then you are talking about a wise investment!

Lenten Lunches

I’m on a committee at my church that is in charge of all-things-social.  Yeah, just a “small” committee, haha.  Sad to say, but I am also the chair, so a great deal of the “stuff” goes through me to be filtered out to the committee.  Anyway, we have our Lenten Lunch series looming before us, as Lent begins on February 6th (Ash Wednesday).  On each subsequent Wednesday, our church hosts an informal worship/speaker service at noon, always finished by 1.  Included in this service is a boxed lunch.
