Congratulations, Class of 2010

I can almost smell the freshly printed diplomas for this year’s high school and college graduates. Graduation is definitely a bittersweet moment as high school students leave behind their safe zone and embark on a new chapter of adulthood. College graduation marks the end of a student’s educational career and the beginning of his/her adult job career.

My younger sister graduates from high school this year and my close friend graduates from college. I’m so excited, so proud, and so happy for both of them. Completing either feat is a great accomplishment and all of you graduates should march to ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ with your heads held high.

I remember I didn’t care if I had a huge party or not, as long as I was surrounded by all the people I love-the same people that were there for me during my all-nighters and my nervous breakdowns. When you reach the end of the tunnel, take a deep breath, smile and shed a tear or two if necessary (happy tears, of course).

Holy Occasions

My sister is about to become a godmother for the first time next month…my sister and tons of other devout Catholics ready to become “spiritual guides” for the younger members of the community.

May is traditionally the month in which every Saturday and/or Sunday afternoon is booked for Christenings, Communions and Confirmations. These religious ceremonies are traditional rites that Catholics and Christians must undergo as part of their faith.

Because these religious rites of passage are so important to the Catholic and Christian communities, they should not happen without the proper acknowledgment. A celebration that features a simple cake and ice cream theme is perfectly reasonable. Most of the time, our family hosts get-togethers at the park since it takes care of entertainment for the children (e.g. plenty of space to run and get tired, and playgrounds) and at the same time, the mess can be taken care of a lot quicker.

Make sure and plan ahead to make this event memorable for your child and less stressful for yourself. Shop our selection of Religious Party Supplies and avoid doing dishes for one night. :-D

Summer Snacking

There is no denying that summer is upon us. It is one of the best seasons because even though most of us still work through most of it, there is always that laid-back-fun-energy in the air. I get excited every time these months roll around because the possibilities are endless.

My favorite part of summer is the salad specials different restaurants create with summer fruit. I recommend getting together with some friends for a glorious weekend picnic outdoors. Grab some freshly chopped romaine lettuce, spinach, chopped strawberries and toss it all with vinaigrette. I guarantee satisfaction.

Memorial Day is Around the Corner!

This weather is driving me nuts! Is it going to be hot or cold? Just choose one already, Mother Nature. I know, I know, April Showers bring May flowers. Blah Blah Blah.

The point is that Memorial Day is around the corner. I love this holiday because it’s set aside to commemorate our veterans-they do not get enough recognition-and because it’s the second to last checkpoint before summer vacation. I am aware that as an adult, this no longer means 3 months off to do absolutely nothing but sleep in and swim, but I still get excited each year.

Celebrate by planning day trips with your children. The economy isn’t our friend right now, but economical trips to the beach and the park should be. Shop our store for Picnic Party Supplies that can inspire anything from lunch at the park with the children to a romantic candlelight dinner with your significant other. It’s all in the lighting. :-)

Armed Forces Day

May 15 is Armed Forces Day here in the U.S. I have friends and family members that have either served or are currently serving in a branch of the military. Although we should show our gratefulness and appreciation for our brave soldiers every day, we should use this day to make them feel more appreciated than usual.

These courageous individuals put their lives at stake everyday they serve our country in order to allow us to continue to live freely. Shop our Army Themed and Patriotic Themed Party Supplies to put together block parties or Welcome Home celebrations for our troops!
