Last-Minute Holiday Entertaining Tips

The holiday season is in full swing, and many people are spending their time entertaining friends and family.  Here are a few hints and tips to put a little extra zip in your own entertaining venue!

Dress up a mug of hot chocolate with some sweet-tasting marshmallow skewers.  Make a thin glaze with powdered sugar and a bit of water.  Dip half of a large marshmallow in the glaze, then roll it in crushed candies (peppermints work well for the hot chocolate).  Let set on waxed paper and then thread onto skewers.  Let your guests stir their mugs with this minty sweetness!

Want to add a little extra flair to your place settings?  Simply thread your napkins through Christmas or other holiday cookie cutters.  Or, tie your cutlery and napkins together with yarn, and embellish the ends with bells, ornaments or beads!

Make a simple centerpiece using a glass bowl, filled with colorful ornaments.  These can be thematic or color coordinated, or try something different with a complimentary color!

For a quick and different way to decorate a Christmas tree, consider displaying your holiday cards on it.  Either prop up cards in the boughs of the tree, or hot-glue thread in loops at the top to hang them.

Add ornaments to a chandelier to bring your guests line of vision up!  Adorn chandeliers and other light fixtures with garlands and even small battery-operated strands of twinkling lights to add to the festive mood.

Presents don’t HAVE to go under a tree; display colorful packages on an open rack, plant stand or hutch, mixed with greenery or garland.
