A new school year begins with a lot of work and preparation on the part of these school employees, and it’s not all just multiplication and proper grammar. For teachers, especially those in elementary schools, decorating for the seemingly endless events and holidays that follow one after another during the school year can seem almost impossible. My good friend’s (and co-worker) in-laws host a Mexican Independence Day party every year, and every year it gets more and more elaborate. That doesn’t have to be a negative thing. Some people are just natural hosts and power to them. This holiday is celebrated on September 15, not to be confused with Cinco de Mayo. Camping at Home

Next month is the celebration of our country’s independence again. I can already hear the sound of Disneyland’s spectacular fireworks show for the grand occasion.

While many are typically accustomed to going out of town for the weekend, these days many are more inclined to celebrate at home in the backyard. It’s more relaxing and economical to invite a few friends over for some afternoon gossip and barbecue. Set up some tables with disposable plastic table covers so the kids have a chance to unleash their creative side with some fun patriotic projects. I can guarantee some pretty snazzy flags by the end of the day.

Use 4th of July themed plates and napkins to add color and a festive touch to almost any outdoor event. If you and yours can’t go for that annual camping trip this year, let camping come to you. Pitch the tent and have an outdoor slumber party in the backyard. The kids will love it. :-)

Shamrock Treats!

St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner. Although I hate being pinched and no, I am not Irish, this day is so much fun.If you find your inner self screaming, “Where is me-snack?!” then I strongly suggest engaging in the art of “Shamrock Yummies”:

Ingredients-
English Muffin
Cheddar Cheese
Green Pepper
Instructions:

  1. Slice the green pepper crosswise near the top to get a shamrock-shaped slice (they usually turn out with 3 points)
  2. Cut a small slice off the end to create a stem
  3. Broil cheddar cheese on the English muffin and top it off with the shamrock!
  4. Enjoy your gold-en treats after setting them on foil shamrock shaped doilies!
